2008 Scholarship Report
Since 1997, the Minneapolis Moline Collectors Club has awarded one or more $500 scholarships to a deserving college age person. This past year that amount has been increased to $750. The idea behind the scholarship goes hand-in-hand with our mission statement of “Educating the public about Minneapolis Moline.” The recipient must be either a MMCI member or have either a parent or grandparent who is a current member of our club. The other main requirement is that this person attends either a vocational or two or four year college.
Once the application deadline has passed, the scholarship committee evaluates all applications and selects a winner based on their merit. Because of the number and quality of the applications this year, our job was very challenging; thus, it was our decision to declare four winners for 2008.
The winning applicants are: Kelsey Kay Moorhouse, Randolph, MN---Granddaughter of Willis Moorhouse; Hailie Fowler, Genoa, IL---Granddaughter of Richard and Bernice Fowler; Monica Boege, Lake City, MN---Wife of Benjamin Boege; and Jillian Barber, Irma, Alberta, Canada---Daughter of Gary Barber.
We would like to congratulate these four young students for a job well done! We encourage all MMCI members to have their qualifying children and/or grandchildren apply for this scholarship next year. Even though there are several applicants who did not win this year, we hope that they are not discouraged and will consider applying again next year. Again, congratulations and best wishes for the future endeavors of our four winners.
